Recently, I have been getting emails from my readers about how they wish they have the talent to draw and ask for advice on how to start. Let me tell you, this is only 10% talent, but 90% is your hard work! You really need practice and patience!

8 years ago, I cannot draw a decent portrait. I frequented art forums, learn from other inspiring artists, ask for criticisms and improved from there. This is one of my first few drawings that challenged my mind when I first started drawing:
Back then, I am impatient and always looking for shortcuts to finish my work but could not achieve the realism that I am looking for. So when I started this project, I was so determined to use only mechanical pencil because it will teach me how to be patient and focused when working on it. I first started out feeling uncertain whether I can complete this work, whether I will have the patience to finish this.
This A4 size drawing took me 3 weeks to complete! There were many frustrations, tears, anger while focusing on the tiny details on the rocks and clothes. Her dress was a complete torture!
My word of advice: You need to be able to accept criticisms and learn from your mistakes. Challenge yourself and you will gain confidence over time. Keep drawing!
It has been encouraging to receive emails from you readers! It is not easy for me to craft and paint while working full time in science-related field because I will always be deadbeat from work and the only time I can paint is during the weekends which is never enough!
Thank you for giving me the support and love for my artworks and I will try to continue my passion and love for art no matter what!
