I had dinner with my friends at Arnold’s @ City Plaza which was recommended by one of my good friends. Since we had to look for halal restaurant, friends who ate at Arnold’s commented that it is way much better than KFC, and also, it is a Singapore Brand as well. Apparently, from what I know, Arnold’s was started in 1984 and it is one of the pioneer Halal eateries in Singapore. So I am really looking forward to the dinner!
When we reached in early evening, I was quite stunned by the long queue, waiting for their number to be called in order to be seated inside. The ordering process take place at the counter before the cashier issued you the number, and you just wait for the number to be called so that you will be ushered in. It is very much like KFC setting, but instead of free seating, you will be ushered in and directed to your seat instead. So we waited quite a while, about 20 minutes in order to be able to get the seats.
As there are about 8 of us, we ordered the 5 person- and 3 person- combo meals, which consist of chicken, mashed poatato, coleslaw, fries, bread and soft drinks.
And the chicken were really good! It doesn’t taste the same way as the KFC chicken as it tasted more peppery as compared to KFC chicken which uses their 11 herbs and spices. I prefer Arnold’s chicken due to the peppery taste 🙂 Beside that, I dislike eating KFC because their chicken were so dry most of the time! As for Arnold’s, I gave it a big thumb up because the quality of the chicken is better and FRESHER. Even though I had breast meat which suppose to be dry (KFC was really too dry). I was surprised and thrilled that the meat of Arnold’s chicken was really tender and juicy (and I choose chicken breast by the way!). And they came piping hot as well!
The most important part of the chicken is the skin, where I noticed that there is very thin layer of fat underneath the skin whereas I always peel of KFC’s chicken because the skin has so much oil-dripping fats that I repulsed from the sight of it. So another thumb up!
I also like their mashed potato and coleslaw as well. For those side dishes, they are on par with KFC, so there is no comparable difference. But one side dish I love the most is their bread! It tasted so much like mantou (chinese steamed bun which is usually served with Chilli crab sauce for the Chinese cuisine). The outside is crispy and the inside is so soft. While eating the mantou, I keep hoping that the chilli crab sauce will come out from thin air so that I can gratefully dipped the bread with the chilli sauce. But since there’s isn’t any, I dipped with the mashed poatato gravy and it tastes good as well!
I also love their fries as in comparison with Macdonald and KFC. It tasted like the fries at MOS burger which I like because I love the taste of real poatato, and Arnold’s fries doesn’t taste very salty as well.
Overall, I gave this fast food a thumb up and if you ever crave for fried chicken, just head to Arnoldo’s outlet! 🙂 Just be prepared to queue if you ever want to visit!
