As many of you know, I am always fascinated by paper and how other amazing and talented paper artists can work their way with paper and create fascinating and beautiful paper artworks! One of my favorite paper artists is Calvin Nicholls, who creates such beautiful artworks that awestruck me and making me observed his works to see how he does it. I will not post the pictures here due to copyright so do take a look at his website for more pictures to get awestruck!

So imagine my delight when The Connoisseur Concerto (TCC) organized a paper cut art workshop where I will learn how to make 3D paper art and bring home my own creation!
Le bf was willing to join me as he was also interested in the workshop so we both signed up together. Great to have a buddy with same interests to attend the workshop as it made things much more fun 🙂
We went upstairs and were greeted by the owner of the gallery (I think?) and he explained to us that there is PantoneMyArt2014 3D in colors going on currently.
This year’s PantoneMyArt 2014 exhibition features works from 8 artists expressing optical illusions in predominant Pantone colours of their choice. Their works are set to take the expression ‘off the wall’ further than ever before, as they present 2D artworks that give a 3D visual illusions. -From TCC PantoneMyArt brochure
He invited us to take a look around the gallery and even gave us suggestive poses for the camera before the artworks. And as mentioned before, we are lovers of illusionary art and so we take a look around! And we had an enjoyable time admiring the artworks by other artists which I’ll be showing some here and I will not explain what those means because it will be much more fun if you can visit their gallery yourself rather than me giving spoilers!
Zi Sin will be the one teaching in the workshop so we went to take a look at her artwork. To admit, I have never heard of her before this workshop and I am glad I do! Her paper art works were very intricately done and so much details were done inside that I know it takes alot of time and patience to finish it!

I knew about this workshop through email sent by TCC for TCC members, which I am as I love TCC’s food and will always visit TCC whenever I have craving for their pasta or dessert. Though it is kind of sad that they no longer have the Salmon Mentaiko pasta which is one of my favorite dishes there and they change to new dishes which I still prefer the old favorites. TCC, if you are reading this, do consider bringing back the old favorites! 😉
Now the paper art workshop began!
Zi Sin introduced herself and her background and also explained her paper art works to us before we get down to get started. The supplies have already been put out nicely for us and the wings placed there were used as a guide for us to follow if we needed to. First, she gave some demonstration on how to use the craft knife and cutting out to show us how she did it.
After the demonstration, we finally get down to work! It was quite enjoyable for me because I have always got the passion for paper art and I have been working with paper for close to 8 years, so it feel so at home there for me, picking up the craft knife which is one of my favorite tools and sitting there cutting out my own wings, oblivious to my surroundings. Doing craft work is always very therapeutic for me. 🙂
The two wings nearby was actually cut by me, but I redo and cut again because I cut too close to the nearest cut line that it tore and alas! I had to do again, which I didn’t mind actually.
Le bf was also having a good time! He kept asking me to slow down because he said I was cutting too fast. HHAHA! He told me he will perfect his techniques so that he can help me in my own craft work one day 🙂 That’s a lovely thing to hear from him! I am glad that I introduced the workshop to him as he didn’t know about it because he wasn’t TCC member.
And surprisingly, they also served “light refreshment” which to me is quite heavy! I knew that light refreshment will be served but I did not expect it to be soooo good! We can request for the choice of drink to quench our thirst which both of us ordered ice lemon tea, and they served us a plate of desserts each as well. Yes, one plate for one person! And its a lot! There were fried prawns, french pastries, two sandwiches, smoke salmon sandwich (OMG…I LOVE THIS!).
It is so much that le bf and I share a plate while we packed the rest home to share with his family. A big food lover, I just went straight into food coma…thank goodness I finished my work before they started serving us. TCC, thumbs up for you guys!
And not to forget taking group photo!

My artwork was placed carefully into a beautiful tiffany blue (my favorite color somemore!) box by Zi Sin, but some unfortunate event striked where I couldn’t find my artwork when I got home 🙁 Le bf reckoned that it might either dropped out or stolen when we left TCC bag unattended for a while at the shopping mall when we paused to check out something. I am pretty sure that I did not drop it and who on earth will steal a small piece of paper art work?
But to end this post in light-heartedness, I’ll be sure to make a much better one myself 🙂
