Have you ever stared at your blank piece of unfinished card and have no idea what to do? That happened to me while I was making this card. I actually cut out the XOXO on acrylic paper using my CAMEO and had left it for few days because I have no idea what to do with it. I didn’t want it to be very plain, and yet not so complicated so I was cracking my head while looking through my drawers of tools to see what I can come up with.
I saw some stencils which I have not yet used, so I decided to implement some stenciling into the card to create an abstract kind of pattern. So I choose The Crafter’s Workshop (TCW) Mini Tile stencil and sponged using mixture of orange, red and green colours (Colorbox chalk inks) before adding bits of glitters using Diamond sticklers on some tiles to create a glittering effect.
Next, I decided to punch out some heart shapes to create embellishments:
And colored the hearts by sponging with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink:
It was quite a bit of disaster if you attempt to just ink it straight from the ink pad because it makes my paper wet and I couldn’t stick foam tape on it properly so I end up sponging on new hearts instead.
I pasted the hearts onto a strip of blue pattern paper which I happened to dug it out from an old file that was kept 4 years ago! I distressed the edges of the paper with black chalk ink before layering onto my card using foam tape to create dimension. After which, I added the hearts on top of it before adding small rhinestones to prevent the hearts from looking plain.
On the side note, the shaker was already done before I did all the steps mentioned above as initially I plan to just leave it plain as it is. But it’s not really my style to leave so much whites so I decided to add all the colours to brighten up my card. So that’s explained the glitters and seed beads you see in the picture above. I stamped the “hugs&Kisses” wordings using black chalk ink.
One last look on the finished card:
That’s about it! <3
PS: If you have been following my blog, I have posted a link on how you can make shaker cards yourself in my past post. Again, I will post it here: Jennifer McGuire’s Shaker Card Tutorial. Have fun!
